How about that Superbowl? I didn't watch much of the game but like a lot of people, I wanted to see the commercials. Did you catch the Christopher "Walken Closet" Kia ad? If not, here it is for your viewing pleasure:
Thanks to Mike at Glitter Lens Photography, wearing socks with pizazz (or as Mike and I like to refer to them—crazy socks) is something we've been doing for the past few years. You see, Mike was at a charity photo gig for cancer survivors when he met a little old lady who was wearing a pair of crazy-ass socks. He asked the the lady, who was also a cancer survivor, why she was wearing them and she simply replied, "life is too short to wear boring socks." This struck a chord with Mike, as he's lost family members to cancer, so now we make it a point to wear fun socks when on the job. Traditionally, for-hire photographers wear all black to their photo-gigs and Mike and I are no exception because it's important to look professional and not stand-out. By wearing crazy socks though, we feel as if we have just a little bit of control with our otherwise boring apparel. After I told my mom about the sock thing I started getting crazy socks from her in the mail for my birthday and Christmas. Hell, I can't even go to Target or Kohl's or Burlington Coat Factory without hitting the sock section.
I really think a movement should be started where all photographers wear crazy-ass socks to their gigs. Crazy socks all around! It's harmless, fun and if asked, there's a nice story behind it.
