Yesterday I was driving home from a photo shoot when I noticed there was some kind of big cycling event going on at Desert Breeze Park. It ended up being the Cross Vegas Cyclocross World Championships, a cycling event that brings bicyclists from all over the world together to compete on an obstacle-filled race course. The event coincided with Interbike 2016, North America's largest all-things bicycle exposition that was taking place at Mandalay Bay.
After talking to the kind folks at the ticket gate I managed to gain free entry (saved $20.00!) and spent about two hours roaming around and taking photos. Although the actual race wasn't until later in the evening (spectator attendance reached over 10,000) I did manage to get some decent photos during practice runs and time trials.
What started with curiosity turned out to be a rewarding endeavor! I haven't photographed a lot of sports/fast action events but I was happy with how the photos came out. I marked the event down in my calendar for next year!
I wish the day hadn't been so overcast and grey. I also left the park while wishing I was still able to ride my own hybrid bicycle... but alas, I need to stave-off my knee replacement surgery as long as I'm able to take the pain. Or at least that's what the doctors tell me! *Sigh*
